if your enemy has fruit and your inns are full then your unit will convert. if your enemy doesn't have fruit and your inns are full your unit won't convert.
so in a map without fruit the only way to convert a unit is for it to be hungry and no friendly inns within range. In a map with fruit it's to be hungry and no friendly inns within range, or be hungry, friendly inns full, enemy inns have fruit. (still very easy to do since most people don't build enough inns, but won't decimate your opponent just because you got to the fruit first)
