In the 0.4 version the camera design will change completely similar to how you describe it. The camera will not be the view anymore ( as in NeXT's 3DKit as well ) but only be the controller which uses a channel ( ie. the NSOpenGLView ) to render the scene. This provides more flexibility and a cleaner design, I think.

Thoughts? Does this answer your question?

Ok, sounds, like this already was an issue with you too. I'll just wait to see the new interface. Sounds like it should be simpler and a cleaner interface to the rest of the Appkit.

I welcome everyone to comment the new design concepts and philosophy for the 3DKit as shortly explained in the gnu3DKit.info file. BTW I just added some more comments wrt tasks and actions to the file.

Please let me know what you think! If the general direction is 'accepted' by everyone we can go one step further and start with the real work...

Furthermore what the 3DKit then needs are test cases and real applications. So I am curious if somebody on this list actually has some concrete plans to use the 3DKit (once it will be usable...)?

The GNU 3DKit will be a great OO platform with integrated 3D graphics. I look forward to being able to use it for various 3d graphics tasks such as modelers and editors for my realtime rendering engines. My apps are currently implemented with NSDrawBitmap() or the more lively 'seperate-SDL-window-thread' :)
