Hey Bradley,

I suggest another tab based category selection so people choose how to view maps. 4 tabs. Map Size, Difficulty, Num Downloads, and Avg Rating (default showing tab) are the standard. #1, #3, and #4 are pretty standard. For #2, maps would be split into how many sides are open to attack initially (its usually the easiest way to tell difficulty).

Example:
Playground = all sides
G2 = 1 side
Wild River = 2 sides (4 only becomes if you chop out the papyrus)

It should be enough for most maps, and add choice for players. How tricky would it be to do something like that?

Also, off the wishlist, there are two ML posts you might like to check out.

http://lists.nongnu.org/archive/html/glob2-devel/2008-03/msg00092.html  <- Online Mark Spot ideas (would be handy, not only for temp ones that fade out, but also permanent ones to monitor areas of the map)
http://lists.nongnu.org/archive/html/glob2-devel/2008-03/msg00110.html  <- See in particular (and its really needed with the new alliance options stuff), converting the cyclers into dropdowns, ability to turn off/lock conversion in the same way alliances are locked (even if fruit are on the map), and ready to start checkbox in YOG games.

My personal things for Beta 4 would be padlock icons on alliance settings you can't change (has been mentioned before), merging the pregame and alliance choices screens into one screen (so if the host makes a change, it can be seen without going to another screen), and having both ally AND building vision shown when alliances are preset (it makes sense to have both enabled).

Also worth pointing out is I can now play myself and an AI against AI and an AI (that is, an allied AI and myself, against two Allied AI's, not AI's of the same team color). From what I can see (and I havn't tested every combination but you should be able to fix it up if its not quite correct), the ally AI attacks enemy AI's, and vise versa. This is extremely fun, and with a few improvements elsewhere in Glob2 (like making this available in Custom Games (not just YOG), and allowing campaigns to predefine alliances (for more interactive campaigns)), Globulation 2 will really boost its popularity.  :D

Regards
Kieran
