The loyalty level could also be affected by how hungry they are (As they get hungrier, they get more and more desperate and more willing to convert).

Hmmm... what if the initial magnitude of this loyalty level was determined by the unit's age (or better yet, integral of their health over time)... so if you take care of your units, train them up and keep them healthy (e.g. make front-line hospitals so warriors can retreat and come back again later), then they have more loyalty.

This also helps mitigate someone who does nothing but build inns to drain your units and use them against you (because you'll be more likely to keep your 'elite' units, so the other player would still have motivation to invest in upgrade buildings of their own). It would also make early rushing less effective, because those units would be relatively young and disloyal and likely to switch before they can do much damage. (unless the attacker can wipe out all of the enemy inns first ;)
