glib compile warning

I was hoping you could help me with a compile warning/error I get when
I try to compile my glib library version 1.2.9.
I get the following warning. Though the ./configure completes without
error.

*** Warning: the command libtool uses to detect shared libraries,
*** /use/bin/file, produces output that libtools cannot understand.
*** The result is that libtool may fail t recognize shared libraries
*** as such. This will affect the creation of libtool libraries that
*** depend on shared library, but programs link with such 
*** libtool libraries will work regardless of this problem. 
*** Nevertheless, you may want to report the problenm to your system
*** manager and/or to address@hidden

During the make process, I get more warning about non link library and
the make process completes again without error.

After the make install and idconfig, I tried to compile my gtk+-1.2.9,
i get the following error about needing glib 1.2.8 and that the glib-config
is not in the PATH.

Any ideal what my problem my be??
