URGENT: help converting framemaker .doc to .ps

hello everyone,
i just installed a2ps and installation was a breeze. then i converted this 
framemaker file.doc to file.ps by saying

a2ps --output=file.ps file.doc

all i got in the file.ps file was garbage. its not even close to the original 
file. is there something i am doing wrong. 

another question is that: is there a way for me where i can just type a2ps 
(someoption) (filename) and it converts this .doc file .ps in the same 
directory 
with the same filename but different extension. 

please respond, this is really urgent matter that i need to fix for an internal 
website.
