URGENT: help converting framemaker .doc to .ps

hello everyone,
i am trying to convert the framemaker file with .doc extension to a .ps file 
using the following command

a2ps --output=filename.ps filename.doc

problem is, all i get is just junk. its not even close to original document. am 
i missing something here?? 

another question is that is it possible that i don't have to type the name of 
the output file and it just converts the file.doc to file.ps?

please respond to this asap. this is really urgent.
