Yes, it is really strange indeed.
So what is the right thing to do? Actually, maybe the string depends
on the program that's used to connect to the remote end? Hm. I
don't really want to make this dependent on the program.
I have now changed the default value such that it uses "xy" when the
default method is plink or plink1. But it's a kludge.
