Right now, the library won't let you save or load

Why do you need image files with no pixels?
We post-process renders to set the data window to bound the non-black
region of the frame. It saves a little bit of disk space and makes
life
much easier in compositing as the images come into Shake with their
DODs
already set.
I have been setting the data window to a 1x1 black pixel but we hit a
bug in Shake concerning small DODs, so I was just wondering if there
was
a way to explicitly mark the file as empty.
