Hello Bassem,
I have committed a set of patches that integrates your updates and code.
Over cairo :
time ./ocitysmap-render -f png -b 30.0888,31.1331 29.9848,31.3391 -p
/tmp/cairo -l ar_EG.UTF-8
It gives the following result:

http://bentobako.org/tmp/cairo.png
I can't tell if the prefix handling is correct. :-)
