It's already there - try ^G after making some changes in a line.
(I mapped this also to ^_ for Bash-like Binding, because of somewhat-
similar use to emacs 'undo' which is ^_ by default.)
But memory goes only back to be state at the beginning of the
'line-editing session', which is not always the same as 'when I
entered this field' (example: ^L ends and then restarts line-editing).
