With the "cleanup patch" I posted earlier today, you can just hit
^V e  (assuming you haven't rebound the EDIT function to something
other than "e").

Without that patch, I was using "$" for the function (ie, ^V $):

  KEYMAP:$:EDITTEXTAREA

Note that CHANGES has a typo WRT the function name.
