Errors in mtools man pages

Whatever process you use to generate man pages from your Texinfo is
generating bad markup into them -- specifically bad .(l and .)l
commands.  Troff just ignores them, but some tools I've written for 
automating translation into DocBook get confused.  

Can we cooperate on fixing this?

(Those) who are trying to read the Second Amendment out of the Constitution by
