[BUG] mcopy behavior causes data lost

Hi Alain.

There was a bug reported that you where following but it was decided
that it was the correct behavior. There is a new message from the
original submitter (Javier Fernandez-Sanguino), and we both agree that
this bug should be fixed as it causes data lost.
