grub-legacy and grub2

Hi all,

i have a few detailed question on how grub2 work.

1. HOW does grub2 find the kernels on the hdd? (which commands,...)
2. What is the exact sequence of the Boot-process? 
3. Whats about Stage1, Stage 1,5? They doesnt exist, but how does it work now? 
I know something about a "kernel.img" and a "core.img"?!

grub-legacy:

1. How does Stage1, Stage1,5 and Stage2 work exactly? What are they doing, 
which code they contain?


Can somebody respond my questions?
