Hi Tom,
I see where you are coming from, but sadly - no.
The command he gave was a direct write to the hard drive first 512 bytes
which overwrote the MBR and partition table. There is no way that
anything on a live CD will be able to mount it, let alone read it, other
than maybe sophisticated disk recovery software. If he had a copy of the
original 512 bytes then it would be an easy job to replace them, but I
fear that the only copy he had is somewhere on the drive in question. :-(
On another point - your email client is breaking threading on the ML
such that every post you make creates a new thread, rather than
continuing it. I have seen this before in other lists with some specific
clients. Just thought you should know.
