Thanks for your email,When I boot it says "GNU GRUB version 1.97~beta4" above the grub menu. This is most definitely older than March 14th, as my original post was made before that :-)
Thanks for your work on GRUB and for trying it. If I get a chance I'll update to latest and try it myself too, but I'm sure it's fixed. Did it also get a bit faster by any chance? I'm assuming that there's no ubuntu package already that's as new as that?

I couldn't see this issue with latest trunk. We did a major rewrite of GRUB script parser and lexer recently, and is merged to trunk on 2010-03-14. If your GRUB version is older than 2010-03-14 please try with the latest.
