Hmm, I recompiled GNUstep CVS from scratch on my

SunOS bogus.doc.com 5.7 Generic_106541-10 sun4u sparc 
SUNW,Ultra-Enterprise

and it displayed images fine. Another thing you might try, is:

openapp MyApp.app --GNU-Debug=NSImage

and that might give me more information about what is going on.
