Subject: | [Help-glpk] 64-bit Setup to use Memory |

Hello,
I seek some advice on the hardware / software configuration to complete a large MIP (multi facility location / allocation problem) I have been developing using GUSEK. I am reasonably confident that the formulation is reasonable (I have had a professional review by others).
The memory limitations using Windows XP Professional have prompted me (probably naively) to purchase an Intel workstation computer with the following key details:
Intel Xeon X5650 2.66Ghz, 6 Cores, 12MB Cache
48GB RAM
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit
Microsoft Office Professional 2010
I was intending to use 64-bit GLPK with this setup to make use of the additional memory.
The reason for Office is that I have been using MS Access databases (mdb) to prepare the large amount of data. This is pretty basic - just tables and queries over those tables.
The only way 64-bit GLPK can use MS Access is if MS Access is connected through the 64-bit ODBC (http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/GLPK/ODBC). From what I understand, MS Access databases created in 32-bit Access cannot be converted to 64-bit MS Access (all I have read only refers to 64-bit Access as using the 32-bit drivers when running Access on a 64-bit OS).
I would appreciate some guidance on how best to prepare my modelling environment:
a) there is no GUSEK for 64-bit OS, so I presume I will need to use command line to 64-bit glpsol
b) whether there is a way that I can use my existing mdb tables in the 64-bit environment
Any other suggestions? Should I forget windows and use something else? Or should I forget access and use an alternative?
I thought that I would be on the right track getting a 64-bit environment, but I am confused how best to setup.
Regards, Alex
