Thank you for your reply.  Boost lib? This is in C, not C++, and if
it's the libboost I'm thinking you mean, how would this help me with
an implementation of getopt strings in YACC?  Indeed, I could just use
getopt(), but this is now getting off topic.

Have I misundertood?
