Recaptcha (http://recaptcha.net/) looks nice and has been used with great success on sites as large as xkcd (http://xkcd.com), it should also be pretty simple to integrate. I say we stick with that.

The bots will adapt to what you recommend I bet, Kyle.

lets bring the forums up to date and then modify the capture so it's
something simple, like "what is the name of this game?" or "just type
Glob2" and then change the forum field IDs. that'll stop most bots
