Sony dumps CD copy protection

Sony Music has announced it is to dump CD copy-protection technology. 

The and music division of the electronics giant said that after two years of
promoting the technology, it believes that the message against illegal
copying has sunk in, and often produces problems playing the CDs,
frustrating consumers. 

Sony now thinks that only a minority of music fans illegally copy CDs and
has changed its position on copy protection as the system can annoy
legitimate music consumers and is already the subject of consumer group
legal actions in some jurisdictions.
