URL: <https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?56872> Summary: Overriding a recipe without warning message Project: make Submitted by: None Submitted on: Sun 08 Sep 2019 06:27:18 PM UTC Severity: 3 - Normal Item Group: Enhancement Status: None Privacy: Public Assigned to: None Open/Closed: Open Discussion Lock: Any Component Version: 4.1 Operating System: Any Fixed Release: None Triage Status: None _______________________________________________________ Details: Overriding a recipe unconditionally trigger warning messages: ...: warning: overriding recipe for target '<target>' ...: warning: ignoring old recipe for target '<target>' This makes strategies with a base makefile extended by another makefile look bad even when recipe override is by design. I suggest a new Special Target '.OVERRIDE'. Definition: "Prerequisites to this target may be overridden without producing a warning message." _______________________________________________________ Reply to this item at: <https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?56872> _______________________________________________ Message sent via Savannah https://savannah.gnu.org/
