[ERROR]execute `make check' to run any self-tests that come with the package grub-0.97

Dear Mr./Ms.,

this is my first time to configure GRUB and install it accordingly, however I experience that condition, any ideas??   Hope to hear from you ASAP

(OS: Linux chance-laptop 2.6.32-38-generic #83-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jan 4 11:13:04 UTC 2012 i686 GNU/Linux)
