Is the groff program in your path?
You didn't say what platform you're using.
"groff" is available from GNU and can be built for whatever UNIX platform
you're on. I think I tried using troff on Sun and SGI but must have given
up and hardwired TkGnats to use groff in the end.
If you're running tkgnats on Windows, printing isn't supported. It's
theoretically possible. I know a few people have tried (you need groff and
ghostscript for Windows) but I never heard back if they got it working.
