gnu version of ls has a *2 GB file size limit* in what it reports. In
other words any file over 2GB will be listed as having a size of exactly
2GB ( actually 2147483647 bytes ).
Evident on an IRIX system, where the system ls reports the correct
(>2GB) filesize, but GNU ls reports a 2GB filesize.
