[Bug-aris] Aris 2.1.1: “undefined referenc e” errors; unusable binaries

‘./configure’ succeeds, then I’m getting lots of “undefined reference to
`xmlsomething' or `gtksomething'” errors on ‘make’.  After that it fails
with “collect2: ld returned 1 exit status.”  GCC, libxml2, and libgtk2
were installed from the Trisquel repos.

I’ve also tried to install using Guix, which builds packages in chroots.
The build succeeds, but the resulting binaries are unusable (see [1]).
The build logs don’t print any errors.
