[Axiom-developer] static axiom

Camm,

We have the usual struggle with dynamic libraries and their versions.
The idea was raised that if we could get Axiom build in a static
linked version we wouldn't have to deal with this issue.

glibc is likely to be installed on most machines but other libraries
appear not to be. Static linking may not solve all of the porting
issues but it might help.
